Watch Me Grow: 25 Weeks

 

Rory is 25 weeks.  She weighs 38 pounds and is still growing. She is doing much better learning not to jump on people.  She has learned to "drop it" really well when playing fetch.  She loves going outside and going for walks.  As soon as she sees her leash her tail starts wagging uncontrollably.  

We had a bit of a fiasco with her on Sunday.  I made chocolate covered pretzels for the ladies I visit teach and they were on a sheet of wax paper on the counter.  Bryce got home from church before I did and let Rory out of her crate.  He went to the bathroom thinking Rory would follow him and lay on the tile like she usually does.  He noticed she didn't come and tried calling her....but no response.  He thought maybe she was just eating her lunch but didn't really think much of it.  I got home and noticed white filmy patches left on the counter.  I asked Bryce what it was from and looking down at Rory he said, "Oh my gosh.  The pretzels!"  She had eaten the entire batch, wax paper and all.  We both (well mainly I) started freaking out since she had just eaten 12 ounces of milk chocolate which can be fatal for dogs.  We quickly started googling to see if there was anything we could do.  We saw a lot of scary symptoms that can result including seizures and her heart stopping if we didn't act quickly.  By this point I was crying and thinking my dog was going to die.  We finally found several vet websites that said to give your dog one teaspoon of hydrogen peroxide per 10 pounds of weight to make them regurgitate what they've eaten.  It said to mix it with a little honey so the dog would eat it easily and quickly.  We hurriedly fed her the hydrogen peroxide/honey mixture and rushed her outside.  Within thirty seconds she was puking up all of the chocolate she had eaten.  I was pretty shocked it worked that fast!  She threw up for a couple minutes and then was done.  We were relieved but we still watched her really closely the rest of the day.  She ended up being completely fine and didn't have a single problem after.  She just scared the crap out of her mom.

I cannot look at this picture without busting up laughing.  I snapped a quick picture of her mid-yawn and this was the result.  Bryce and I were both in tears laughing when I first loaded it onto my computer.  We love our Rory girl even if she creates chaotic moments.  She definitely keeps our lives from being dull.

Dear Baby

Dear Baby, 

Today I had my third doctor’s appointment. I am now 16 weeks pregnant. Your daddy and I were excited for this appointment more than usual as we were hoping we would get to find out if you were a  boy or a girl. My appointment wasn’t until the afternoon so I worked most of the day, and it was torture! I was so anxious and excited I looked at the clock at least every hour. I left work around two and drove home to pick up your dad. We excitedly tried to guess what you would be, but neither of us had a strong feeling one way or the other. 

We got all checked in at the doctor’s office and only had to wait a couple of minutes until we were called back to see the doctor. He reviewed my chart and excitedly asked, “Well are we finding out what you’re having today?” I laughed and said “I hope so!” I got up on the table and the doctor started the ultrasound. First the doctor checked your heartbeat and said it was at a perfect 140 beats per minute. I smiled and felt relieved. I still get a little nervous before every appointment. I worry about you all the time already. Next the doctor checked your fluid levels, organs, and measured your size. He said you were exactly where you should be at 16 weeks and right on track for your due date of January 19th. 

The doctor changed views and explained we were looking at the signifier of the big news. He asked what we thought and your dad trying to see what he was referring to on the ultrasound asked, “Is it a….boy?” The doctor smiled and replied, “Nope it is definitely a girl.” Then he showed us how he could tell. He said he was positive you were a girl and we were safe to start buying girl clothes. 

We were so happy! We didn’t care either way but we were thrilled to find out you were a girl. I’ve always wanted a little girl and hoped I would get at least one! Your dad was pretty surprised as boys seem to be a little more common in his family. He grew up with four brothers & only one sister, and had five nephews before his first niece came along. 

You will have lots of cousins you will get to grow up with. Your aunt Laci is due with her baby girl, Lydia, on September 14. You and Lydia will only be four months apart. Laci and I are hoping you will be best friends! Your Grandma and Grandpa Mecham will get two granddaughters for their first grandchildren. You will bring the count on the Leishman side of the family to 10 grandchildren; 6 boys and 4 girls. 

Your daddy and I have decided to name you Claire. Your Great-Grandma Susan Mecham (your Grandpa Mecham’s mom) had a daughter named Marni Claire who passed away when she was a baby. You are going to be named after her, in honor of my dad’s little sister I never got to meet. We are not a hundred percent sure on a middle name yet, but we really like Amelia.  If we go with that your full name will be Claire Amelia Leishman. 

I can’t wait to be your mama! You are going to be so loved. I hope to teach you to be kind, charitable, smart, hard-working, brave, and proud of who you are. I hope to teach you about your Father in Heaven and Savior Jesus Christ. I promise to share my testimony with you often and to help you build your own by teaching you, reading scriptures with you, and praying with you every day. And I really can’t wait for you to meet your daddy. He is so wonderful and is working so hard in school right now so he can get a good job to provide for our family in the future. I think he will be your favorite. He will play with you, tickle you, talk in silly voices, and make you laugh all the time. I know this because he already does all of that with me. 

We are finally announcing that we are pregnant tonight. We have kept it a secret for a long time but we wanted to be sure that you were healthy and that things were going okay before we told everyone. We are going to have to wait a week to tell everyone that you are a girl though. We want all of your family to be there but having the whole family come makes scheduling a little difficult. We are having a party next Monday to share the news that we will be having a baby girl join our family. We love you so much already and we cannot wait for you to get here! See you soon little one.

*I have been writing letters to my baby once a month to put in her baby book.  I don't know if I will share all of them, but I may every now and then since this blog is like my little family's journal.  I like knowing that I can go back and read through old blog posts like this later in life.

It's A.....

GIRL!!!

  

We had our gender reveal party with our family today.  We had everyone cast their vote of boy or girl by choosing a pink or blue cookie.  Then for the big reveal I made scratch off cards for everyone.  Everyone was pretty surprised, the majority voted boy.  

We are sooo excited to finally share the news.  We had a hard time keeping it a secret for almost an entire week.  Bryce and I can't wait to meet our sweet little girl.  January can't come soon enough!

Watch Me Grow: 24 Weeks

 

Rory is 24 weeks and has almost reached her six month birthday.  I've noticed that her hair growing in is more reddish brown than blonde.  I'm curious to see what she'll end up looking like full grown when she has lost all her puppy fur.  One of her favorite things is laying on the cold tile in the kitchen or the bathroom.  She loves playing with Bryce.  She gets so excited whenever he comes home.  She immediately grabs one of her toys and runs it over to him to play fetch.  She still sleeps a lot and is always cuddly when she is tired.  We have been working on trying to keep her from jumping on us when she gets excited.  It's been a bit of a challenge.  She's made a little progress but still jumps up quite a bit on us or on visitors when she gets excited.  Does anyone have any good tips that have worked for them to stop their dogs from jumping?

A Baby Shower for Laci & Lydi

Yesterday my mom and I threw a baby shower for my sister Laci and her baby girl Lydia who will be here in about a month.

We had lots of yummy food including Laci's cravings: cheetos, strawberries, and kit kats. 

Here she is with all of her gifts.  She got so many cute baby things! 

I gave Laci the mobile I made and a diaper bag.  Her husband Brian better appreciate that I specifically chose a diaper bag that wasn't purple or pink so he wouldn't feel a loss of manhood when he has to carry it.

I am counting down the days until Lydi's arrival.  I can't wait to meet her and spoil her rotten.  I am sure I will be her favorite aunt :)  And on a side note Laci and I are sooo excited that our babies will be so close.  They will only be four months apart and we are certain they will be best friends.

Guess What!?!

Baby Leishman is due January 19, 2014. 

 I am 16 weeks as of Sunday.

Goodness, we are so excited and so grateful for this blessing.  Since I'm finally starting to show a little we figured it would be a good idea to fill everyone in.

p.s. We know what the baby is :).  But we're making everyone wait until Monday to find out if it's a little boy or girl at a gender reveal party we're throwing.

Watch Me Grow: 23 Weeks

A day in the life of Rory at 23 Weeks:

6:55 Wake Up 

7:00 Go Outside with mom (or dad) for morning potty break
7:33 Sleepily Eat Breakfast

8:11 Take a nap while mom works 
11:15 Chew on Toys

  11:30 Go Outside for potty break. Try to dig in the yard and get in trouble from mom. 

12:00 Eat Lunch 

12:45 Take another nap  

2:45 Go outside for ANOTHER potty break. Sit and watch birds. 
4:20 Play with duck

5:43 Watch mom make dinner and do the dishes 
6:24 Eat Dinner
7:48 Play with Dad

9:17 Fall Asleep 

Add a few more potty breaks, training sessions, and the occasional time out and that about sums up Rory's day to day life.
