Halloween Birthday!

This week was my birthday week.  Yesterday I turned twenty-three.  It's a strange thought that I am almost to my mid-twenties, but an exciting one all the same.  I love the stage of life I am in and I can't wait to see what the future brings for my little family.

First for my birthday, Bryce took me to see Hotel Transylvania on Monday night.  We both loved it and laughed through the whole movie.

On Halloween, the morning of my actual birthday, Bryce woke up and surprised me by making me breakfast; an omelet with turkey sausage.  Then my sweet co-workers brought crispy creme doughnuts to work to celebrate!

After work Bryce and I changed into our costumes and went trick-or-treating....to three houses: Bryce's parents, my grandparent's, and my parent's.  We dressed up as Beauty and the Beast.  I wore my prom dress, that I can still barely fit into!  And for Bryce's costume I found a wolf-man wig and attached horns I made out of tinfoil, masking tape, and black paint, and I made a cape for him out of blue taffeta.  I was really happy with how the costumes turned out, and I am glad Bryce was such a good sport dressing up with me.

After spending the night with family we came home and Bryce spoiled me with presents. He got me a new book for my cloth bound classic collection, a few new shirts, and he is working on a bench that he hasn't quite been able to finish yet.

Halloween is one of my favorite holidays, not only because it's my birthday but since it is kind of the kick off for the holiday time of year, and this year's definitely lived up to my high expectations.  Here's to being another year older and hopefully somewhat wiser!

Hello Fall!

(I came home from work to this today.  My husband is the best at leaving surprise messages!)

My FAVORITE season is finally here! I adore this time of year. I love the colors, the chill in the air, boots, jackets, & scarves, Halloween movies, and pumpkin everything. Things have been so busy lately with work and Bryce's never ending school schedule, that we hardly ever get to see each other.  So I am making a fall to-do list and I am determined that we are going to accomplish everything on it!

To Do:
1.  Go to a corn maze
2.  Carve pumpkins
3.  Have a fall picnic
4.  Go apple picking
5.  Go on a drive in the mountains and take pictures of all the pretty leaves.

To Make & Eat
1.  Pumpkin chocolate chip cookies *we may have already done this once already, see above picture
2.  Caramel apples
3.  Pumpkin pancakes
4.  Hot apple cider
5.  Candy Corn *this one is just eat :)

To Watch:
1.  Hocus Pocus
2.  Rear Window
3.  Wait Until Dark
4.  Hotel Transylvania
5.  You've Got Mail

There. I feel good about Fall 2012 already.  Making lists does that to me.

2012 Back to School Feast

Photobucket

While I have not been blogging for that long, I have been reading blogs for years.  I discovered NieNie's blog back in the summer of 2009 after my first year of college.  I remember I spent two days doing nothing but read through all of her archives.

One thing I have always wanted to do after reading her posts was a back to school feast.  I seriously have been waiting for years.  I know I don't have kids yet but there is no way I was going to pass up a perfect opportunity. I graduated college last December but Bryce has the admirable and daunting goal of medical school so he is still right in the thick of it.

School started for him today, so Sunday night I surprised him with our 1st Annual Leishman Family Back to School Feast.

The Menu included pot roast, corn on the cob, spinach salad, steamed vegetables, homemade wheat rolls, and fresh strawberries.

I decorated with back to school colors of red & white, apples (to remind him to suck up to his teachers), and owls (to remind him how wise he is and how much wiser he is going to keep getting!)

Good luck to Brycer and everyone else starting another year of school!

Updates in the Little Basement

Now that we have pictures up on our walls I finally feel like our little basement is getting close to being finished the way that I want.  Although, a few minutes ago when I mentioned that to Bryce he responded with raised eyebrows, "Sweetie, I don't think you'll ever be all the way 'finished' with our house."

He's probably right.  I always come up with something else I "need" for our house.  A new rug, curtains, cuter pillows, a new chair, a wicker hamper and retro garbage can (my most current wants needs), etc.  But actually I really do love how it has turned out.  Especially on hard days when nothing goes well I come home and think, "At least my house is cute."

Anyway here are a few pictures of the most recent updates:

Photobucket
The big canvas print above the TV I ordered from easycanvasprints.com and I LOVE it.  It turned out so good.  The silhouettes are from Disneyland.  My mother in law was getting rid of the little orange chair so I snatched it up and found a home for it.  The coat rack was an ugly brass one I picked up at salvation army for $5 and spray painted.

I added a picture above each of our nightstands and sewed a matching curtain, accent pillow, and used some of the extra fabric to make a wreath I hung on out bedroom door.

The little wooden chair and floral jar I picked up at a thrift store too, for both about $5 each.
I think decorating and fixing up our little apartment has become my favorite hobby.

Disneyland!

Photobucket

Last weekend Bryce and I took a little trip to the happiest place on earth.  We flew to California Friday morning and flew back to Utah Monday night, and spent a total of 32 hours at Disneyland in that short span of time.

It was so nice only having two of us!  We were able to hit all but maybe 4 or 5 of the little kiddy rides at both Disneyland and California Adventure and we saw Fantasmic, World of Color, and the Fireworks show all on Saturday night.  We had so much fun and we were completely exhuasted by the end. Que picture overload:

Wedding Pictures

We finally got our wedding pictures back.  They turned out lovely.  Bryce is a little sick of me saying "Come here!  Look how cute we look in this one!!"  But it has been fun reliving the day a little through the pictures.

Here are just a "few" of my favorites:

Now I just need to decide which ones we want to print.  It's so hard though, I love so many!  I think I'll just have to have fifty pictures from my wedding day on my walls.
