You can pretty much adapt this to any fruit/veggie just the cooking method and amount of time will differ.
-Avocados & bananas you don't need to cook; just puree and freeze.
-Sweet Potatoes bake at 350 for 45-60 minutes (until soft). Puree & freeze.
-Cherries bring to a boil in a pot on the stove with a little added water & simmer for 15-20 minutes. Puree & freeze.
-Green Beans steam until tender. Puree & freeze.

Thanks for this post!! I have been thinking when I want to start introducing solids with Emma, so this post was perfect! What was the first thing you started introducing? Do I need to start with some kind of cereal or can I go straight into solids? haha sorry so many questions! I am glad your little one is a month older, so you do everything right before me ;)
ReplyDeleteThe first food we started Claire on was avocado. I didn't want to do cereal because it's just basically feeding them a sugary starch with no nutritional value, so I talked to her pediatrician and he said I didn't have to do cereal at all, but just start with low allergy foods. And you should wait 3-5 days before introducing something new in case your baby has any allergic reaction. After avocado we did bananas, & then sweet potatoes and stuck with those three for a few weeks.
DeleteWhen we started I didn't even feed her solids every day. It takes their digestive system some getting used to so at first it would sometimes take her 2-3 days to poop (haha sorry this getting so detailed). I would wait until she pooped to feed her solids again. Once she started pooping every day after she ate solids then I started feeding her solids once every day. I'm just now gradually increasing it to 2-3 times a day.
Also when she started she really wasn't "eating" much. Most of it ended up getting spit out or on her face haha. Really you are just practicing and helping them learn at first. Even now she doesn't "eat" a ton yet, which is totally fine because they should get most of their nutrients from breast milk/formula the first year, so really I just look at it as practice and have fun with her. Haha...sorry this turned in to such a long reply!
Thanks for the long reply!! I liked it :) I am thinking we'll start E with some sweet potatoes! We eat them every day, so that would be perfect! thanks for the tips! I heard someone say that "Food before one is just for fun", so I think that sounds about right! It is kind of refreshing that we don't have to feed these little ones real food super fast (I guess unless they want to haha), because breastfeeding (at least for me) has been so easy...
